My Studio Policies
1. All lessons must be paid for the first week of each month. If you don’t pay by the fifth of the month, you agree to add a $10 late fee. You are also responsible to pay any extra bank fees if your check gets returned by the bank.
2. If lessons are not canceled at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled lesson time, a $5.00 fee will be added for each missed lesson to the next month’s bill. If lessons are missed repeatedly and no prior notification is given, your lesson time will be forfeited and you will be dropped. If you decide to quit lessons, you agree to give me a 30 day notice. If proper notice is not given, you will be required to pay a full month’s fee.
3. Each student is required to attend group lessons. You agree to attend group lessons each month without fail. Group lessons are imperative to the success of your student with the Suzuki Method. After you miss one group lesson you will be given a written warning and if two group lessons are missed without notification, your lesson time will be forfeited and you will have to find another teacher.
4. Make-up lessons will be offered if I am available during the free week and only on the days as specified by the teacher. This applies both for lessons that I cancel and lessons that you cancel. If no make-up lessons are able to be scheduled or you cancel a previously scheduled make-up lesson, there will be no credit given and no make-up lessons carried over to the next month.
5. All student families must be members of the Suzuki Association of Utah (SAU). You agree to pay the membership fee each year. Every student must also participate in AT LEAST one SAU event each year.
6. I expect the students I teach to enroll in the Intermountain Suzuki String Institute. I work on it all year long and feel that it makes a dramatic impact on a child’s life, in many ways besides the violin. Please plan ahead and save for it and be excited about it. Extenuating circumstances will be considered.
7. Please make sure that all cellular phones and pagers are turned off or switched to the silent mode for lessons. It is a distraction when these devices go off and oftentimes it is difficult to re-gain the student’s concentration and focus.
8. No gum chewing is allowed during lessons. Gum chewing and playing a musical instrument do not mix!!
9. Please make sure that your student’s fingernails are always trimmed.
10. Please use the restroom at home before coming to lessons and come with clean hands ready to play your instrument. Taking a bathroom break during lessons is disruptive and can sometimes talk half of the lesson.
11. Always be prepared for your lesson and keep your lesson time accurate. Lessons will start and stop as originally scheduled.
12. If siblings wish to attend a student’s lesson, they must remain quiet in the studio. Please DO NOT let them roam the house. They must remain in the studio area with you, unless they need to use the restroom in which case they may be excused.
13. Please notify me of any health or behavior problems that I should be aware of, including food allergies, and whom to notify in case of an emergency.
14. All students are required to study for the entire year, including summer. If you will be gone for an extended period of time, special arrangements may be made as long as I am notified within 30 days of scheduled event.
