About Me
My name is Trina Christensen. I grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah and began exploring music at the age of 5 when observing my friend's Suzuki violin lessons. At the age of 8 I began to play the violin studying traditionally through orchestra in school and later converting to the Suzuki Method when studies began with Esther Larsen. I have received Suzuki Method teacher training from Jeanne Grover, Ed Kreitman, Linda Fiore, Allen Lieb, Bill Starr, Cathy Lee, Michiko Yurko and Pat D'Ercole.
I have been actively involved in the Suzuki Association of Utah serving as publicity chair, Salt Lake violin region chair, as President for three years and on the Celebration Concert committee in 2001 and 2004. I have also been co-chair and chair of the Salt Lake south region for the Utah Federation of Music Clubs. I was the Director of Operations and Finances for the Intermountain Suzuki String Institute for 17 years. I have a private violin studio in West Jordan, Utah. I am a member of the Suzuki Association of Utah and Suzuki Association of the Americas. I am also a past-presenter at conferences for the Suzuki Association of the Americas and Suzuki Association of Utah. In 2013 I began serving on the Board of Directors for Sistema Utah, an El Sistema-inspired program through the American Preparatory Academy and am currently the Director of Sistema Utah where we serve over 400 low income families providing a free of charge after school music program. I have served on the committee for the El Sistema USA Symposiums for 2019, 2020 and was the Chair of the Committee for our virtual symposium and seminario for 2021 and 2022. I have been serving on the board of the Utah Philharmonic Orchestra as Board Member At-Large since 2019.
I have been teaching the Suzuki Method for over 20 years and LOVE MY STUDENTS! I also taught elementary school orchestra for the Jordan School District. My goal in my teaching is to inspire my students to be the very best they can be and to play with "beautiful tone and a beautiful heart." I believe that anyone can learn to play the violin and/or viola. I have taught students with special needs including high functioning autism, ADD/ADHD and dyslexia. The parent is key in your student's success which I have experienced first-hand as a Suzuki mom myself with my three oldest children. I incorporate fun, hard work and a variety of teaching methods to teach all of my students. Not only do you have private lessons monthly, but there are also group lessons, recitals and performances throughout the year.
My husband Jeremy and I are the proud parents of five children Hannah (violinist), Gavin (cellist), Aiden (violist), Collin (trumpet) and Kallie (pianist).
Let's make music together!
